Step-by-Step Instructions

1

Install the batteries

Open the battery compartment on the back of the device and insert 2 AA batteries. The device will not work without them β€” Navage is battery-powered, not rechargeable. A fresh set of batteries typically lasts 3–4 weeks with daily use.

2

Load a SaltPod β€” click it in firmly

Place one SaltPod into the SaltPod chamber (top of the device). Press down firmly until you feel and hear a distinct click. This click matters β€” it pierces the pod and opens the saline channel. A half-inserted pod produces no flow. ⚠️ First-time users often don’t push hard enough. Use firm, direct downward pressure until you feel the click.

3

Head position: chin slightly down, not tilted sideways

This is the most common mistake. Unlike a neti pot (which requires 45-degree head tilt), the Navage works best with your head level or chin slightly forward over the sink. Tilting sideways risks saline draining toward your ears β€” uncomfortable and unnecessary.

4

Insert the nosepiece β€” seal it firmly

Insert the upper nosepiece snugly into one nostril. The fit needs to create a seal β€” if air escapes around the nosepiece, suction drops and flow decreases. Press it gently but firmly against the inside of the nostril. Either nostril works; most users start with the more open side.

5

Press the button β€” breathe through your mouth

Press and hold the power button. Saline flows in through the upper nostril and exits through the lower nostril into the sealed collection chamber below the device. The full cycle takes about 10–15 seconds. Critical: breathe through your mouth, not your nose, during the rinse. Breathing through your nose during the rinse interrupts the flow β€” you’ll feel a sputtering sensation. Open your mouth, breathe slowly, and let the device run its full cycle.

6

Clean and dry the device

After the rinse: remove and discard the used SaltPod. Empty the lower collection chamber (used saline + cleared mucus) into the sink. Rinse both chambers with clean water. Air dry with chambers open. Do not submerge the device β€” it contains a motor and battery compartment.

What to Expect on Your First Use

Normalizing the weirdness First-time nasal irrigation feels strange β€” full stop. Saline moving through your nose is genuinely unfamiliar. Almost every user describes the first session as β€œweird” or β€œuncomfortable” and rates the second and third as dramatically easier. Give yourself 3 sessions before judging the Navage.

β†’ You may taste saline at the back of your throat. This is normal β€” a small amount runs down the nasopharynx. It’s harmless isotonic saline.

  • β†’ Your sinuses may feel β€œfull” briefly after the first rinse. Blow your nose gently (both nostrils open, don’t pinch) over the sink 30–60 seconds after the session to clear residual saline.
  • β†’ The first session with a congested nose may flow slowly. The motor is working β€” keep the seal tight and let it run the full cycle.
  • β†’ By day 3–5, the technique becomes automatic. Most users settle into a sub-3-minute routine.

Troubleshooting & FAQ

Which direction do you tilt your head? + Tilt slightly forward (chin toward chest), not sideways. Unlike a neti pot, the Navage works with your head level or slightly forward. Sideways tilt risks saline draining toward your ears.

Why is no saline flowing when I press the button? + Check three things: (1) SaltPod not fully clicked β€” press harder until you feel a click; (2) Nosepiece not sealed β€” create a firm nostril seal; (3) Low batteries β€” replace them. All three must be correct for flow to work.

Is it normal to taste saline in my throat? + Yes β€” a small amount of saline sometimes runs down the nasopharynx. It’s harmless isotonic saline. Adjust your head slightly more forward and breathe through your mouth during the rinse to minimize this.

How do you clean the Navage? + After each session: discard the used pod, empty the lower chamber into the sink, rinse both chambers with clean water, air dry completely. Do not submerge the device β€” it has a motor and battery compartment.

How often should you use the Navage? + Once daily during active allergy/congestion season. 3–4 times per week for maintenance. Some users rinse twice daily during severe symptoms β€” this is safe but doubles SaltPod use. Consult your ENT for personalized guidance.
